In the late 1970’s, Rev Lampley taught a Saturday Bible Study to a small group of women from Corinthian Baptist Church. The Bible Study group met at the home of one of the members of the group.
After about three years, Rev. Lampley shared with the group the leading he had received from the Lord to start a church. The name "Berean" was selected because of their desire to emulate the zeal and dedication of the Christians at Berea, (Acts 17:10-13). On Sunday, April 11, 1982, Berean Baptist Church of Prince Georges County held its first worship service at the John Hanson School in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
The emphasis of this ministry would be to witness, preach, and teach the Word of God and to encourage others to read and study the Word. Their collective vision was to be a church that emphasized the Word Ministry; witnessing for Christ and nurturing the spiritual development of others; and promote spirit-filled and orderly Christian living.
Today, the mission of Berean Baptist Church remains unchanged. This mission is achieved by preaching the Gospel; Intercessory Prayer; maintaining Bible Studyies and Christiantraining programs; Evangelism and Outreach. Through partnerships with local, national and international ministries, Berean is advancing the work of Christ at home and throughout the world.
